A random difference between British and American culture is, I noticed for the first time today, the participle used to describe a loo when someone is in it. Engaged for the Brit, but merely occupied for the American. Paradoxically, the euphemism which I imagine originally occured to distance oneself from talking about using the toilet, now seems to imply the possibility of alternative uses!

Alternative uses...such as tampering with the lavatory smoke detector I assume? ;)
I don't think I'd want to be "engaged" to a toilet though...and I'm not sure I want to know what an "engaged" toilet would to with its spouse after the wedding.
As it happens, the toilet here in my house has one of these status indicators, and it says either "Vrij" or "Bezig".
You'd better believe it!
God damn my memory cells! Upon actually checking, it turns out that my household toilet status indicator reads either "Vrij" or "Bezet". Get the facts.
